Mayra is a family nurse practitioner with over a decade of expertise in outpatient endocrinology, specializing in patient-centered diabetes care. She is board-certified in advanced diabetes management and a diabetes care and education specialist.  In addition to her clinical practice, Mayra serves as an assistant professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice program, where she mentors and educates future healthcare leaders. She earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and has contributed to numerous clinical research studies aimed at advancing diabetes care and improving patient outcomes. She is an active member of the research and planning committees for the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists. Beyond her academic and clinical roles, Mayra serves as a board member for the South Texas Juvenile Diabetes Association, supporting children and families living with diabetes in the Rio Grande Valley. Passionate about evidence-based care and professional collaboration, Mayra is committed to empowering healthcare providers with the tools and knowledge needed to deliver excellence in diabetes management.
